Development cycles in the automotive industry are getting shorter and shorter, and the demands on quality and safety continue to rise. This is clearly shown in the current topics such as alternative engines or autonomous driving, which currently dominate the future of the automotive industry.

For communication as well as the exchange of information and data between automobile manufacturers on the one hand and the suppliers' development departments, this means close integration and a high coordination effort.

The core of this process is usually defined by the exchange of error messages that occur during product development. These must be regularly exchanged across company boundaries and changes have to be synchronized as soon as possible. This can be information about tests that are carried out at the supplier and what the customer is informed about, or the customer reports errors to the supplier in the course of his own validation.

The suppliers of almost all major automobile manufacturers face the additional challenge of having to use the communication channels provided by the customer and specific platforms and portals for data exchange.

The most commonly used - and directly supported by agosense.symphony supplier portals are currently:

This means that the customer or automobile manufacturer provides access to data synchronization, which is usually accessible either via a web interface or via the programming interface. In addition, the OEM determines a specific process or workflow for the communication between the two partners. This describes, for example, the rules for transmission, state transitions, the timing of synchronizations, etc. Although this process is usually the same for all projects, it can nevertheless differ in detail and can also be changed over time by the OEM.

The goal on the supplier side is, of course, to keep the cost of communication as low as possible, so usually the communication via an automatable interface is preferred. Among other things, the following is required for a connection to a supplier portal:

  • Automated synchronization without manual intervention
  • Technical adaptation to the portal-specific formats or interfaces
  • Multiple use of the technology for all projects / development departments
  • Easy adaptation to the given processes of the OEM - even with changes Independence from own Defect Tracking or Change Management Tool
  • Matching the given processes to the own workflows
  • Reliability of the technology, even with high data volumes and replacement intervals

Although individual programming (mostly based on services or contractors) promises rapid implementation, they do not meet many of the above requirements. So these are usually not configurable, process adjustments must be coded, it lacks the infrastructure for appropriate reliability and the general maintenance is of course correspondingly expensive.
